One way of making money from your website or blog is by placing ads on it.
The most common way of doing this is through advertising networks that pay you a few cents when visitors click on an ad (“pay per click”) on your site. The most well-known network is Google Adsense. You can apply for an Adsense account through your Google account.
Other alternatives are Blogads and Bidvertiser.
If you apply to Adsense, increase your chances of acceptance by completing your site and content beforehand. Eliminate empty pages, label images, check links and make sure navigation is working properly. I got turned down several times on my first site, but kept making improvements until my site was accepted.
Once accepted, you can select from different sizes and types of advertising blocks and paste code onto your site. Then Adsense places specific ads there that seem to fit with your content and the visitor’s interests. If you wish, you can block ads from general categories, specific sensitive categories, specific ad networks or advertiser urls.
Be sure to familiarize yourself with and follow Adsense’s policies. For instance, they have a strict policy prohibiting clicking on your own ads!
These days, it’s rather difficult to make a lot of money doing this, as most internet users simply ignore ads on websites, but it is one of several methods that can be combined to monetize your site.
